Commissioned because of previous work achieving planning approval for late houses in the countryside, Logic were appointed to secure planning approval for the largest houses possible as replacements for 3no. existing tired and inhabitable farm workers cottages in Birkby North Yorkshire.
Working with the existing footprint of the existing dwellings and historic references to previous agriculture buildings on the plot a design evolved that attempted to create the illusion of a traditional farmhouse and a series of outbuildings and barns that had been converted in recent years to create two large family homes.
By rotating the second dwelling to face west a family garden and westerly aspect was achieved to benefit from far reaching views. In addition the change in composition added further variety to the dwellings such that they would feel completely bespoke to each other.
Following extensive negations with the local Planning Authority spanning almost a year of work, planning approval was finally granted for the demolition of a small terrace or farm workers cottages and the erection of 2 large executive dwellings comprising of 5 bedrooms and various reception rooms. At least one of the plots is currently for sale creating a very unique opportunity for the purchaser to create a modern yet traditional dwelling with all the benefits of improved thermal performance offered by modern construction techniques.
